IT Systems Specialist

We are seeking an outstanding IT Systems Specialist to join our innovative team. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic team player who is both results- and detail-orientated. Good organizational and analytical skills coupled with the ability to follow through and get results are a must.  This position is responsible for the administration, maintenance, design and implementation of SBU computer network servers, workstations, and communication requirements, and in accordance with corporate policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:

·         Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience in mixed computing environment.

·         Certificate in one or more Microsoft training programs.

·         Journeyman knowledge of configuration and maintenance of Microsoft Windows XP/Vista workstation OS, Cisco, or equivalent, router and firewalls and Ethernet and TCP/IP networks.

·         Requires superior ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, interconnection failures

·         Ability to guide semi-knowledgeable users through configuration and troubleshooting of their software tool(s), workstation and workstation software. 

·         Track record of being a resource to end-users and empower them in their use of IT resources.

·         Ability to use standard network diagnostic software, small hand tools, electronic troubleshooting devices like voltmeters, etc.

·         Good communication skills.

·         Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills.

·         Team player with strong initiative.

Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for the administration, controls and monitors access to LAN servers, email, wireless access points, and telephone systems.

·         Enforces network security standards, including SBU and corporate network access policies and virus protection methodology.

·         Monitors network health and performance to assure that response time and connectivity meet business requirements. 

·         Performs and maintains system backups to ensure recovery from disaster or other minor casualties.

·         Evaluates, selects, configures and installs telephone and data network equipment such as PBXs, LAN servers, back up appliances, routers, firewalls and switches to maintain a reliable and cost effective phone and data network.

·         Coordinates with telecommunication carriers, equipment providers and local personnel to implement, upgrade or troubleshoot network and telephone connections. 

·         Maintains sufficient telephone and network infrastructure supplies for the ready operation of the data and telephone systems.

·      Assists departments, through their computer representatives, with purchases and maintenance of workstations, workstation software and printers. 

·      Coordinates reallocation of hardware and software resources as appropriate between departments. 

·      Evaluates proposed purchases for cost-effectiveness and consistency with SBU goals.   

·      Monitors technology trends to maintain cost effective voice and data networking capacity and capability.
