DEPARMENT: ENGINEERING
REPORTS TO: Program Manager as directed by the VP of Engineering
POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidate for this position will be skilled machinist with experience in prototype metal and plastic component fabrication. This individual will be part of an engineering group and will work under a project Program Manager. This person will be responsible for fabricating prototype components at the direction of an engineer or senior machinist.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabricate prototype parts on mill and lathe as described by engineering drawings, sketches, or verbal instructions
- Identify and order consumable tools as appropriate
Experience
Minimum of ten years experience as a machinist responsible for own setups.
Required Skills
- Able to program, setup, and operate Vertical Machining Center with CAM software including 4 axis machining.
- Able to operate engine lathe to produce close tolerance parts.
- Ability to plan and determine set-up procedures, operating sequence, tooling spindle speeds, tool feed rates, and work piece holding methods best suited for operations, machines and size of work piece.
- Proficiency with manual mills, lathes, surface grinders and hand tools.
- Ability to read blueprints, sketches, drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, such as algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Perform part inspection using measuring tools/gauges to ensure part quality.
- Ability to design and fabricate simple tools and fixtures
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Must have own tools
- Sheetmetal fabrication, rapid prototyping, casting, or molding experience are all a plus
- CAD experience a plus
Education
- High school diploma.
- Machinist trade school certification, apprenticeship or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
- Must have visual acuity necessary to read engineering documents and determine product quality.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and transport equipment weighing approx. 80 pounds.
- Verbal and writing proficiency in English.
- Good hand / eye coordination
- Good eyesight (corrected)
- Full range of motion in upper body
