LENGTH OF CONTRACT:
3-6 month contract
PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Engineering Technician provides support to the product design and verification process by supporting Engineering laboratory maintenance and logistics, building circuit prototypes and test accessories, configuring manual and automated test setups, conducting manual and automated testing and data reporting; working in partnership with development engineers, technicians, and other staff members from a variety of disciplines.
Key Responsibilities (examples of ongoing duties)
• Parts ordering, kitting, and low-volume assembly
• Ship and receive laboratory test equipment
• Assist in scheduling and effecting test equipment calibrations with minimum disruptions to ongoing workflow
• Maintain design kits, connectors, cables, and other common laboratory supplies
• Set up laboratory test benches
• Build RF coaxial cables, wiring harnesses, and test leads
• Construct and rework SMT PCB assemblies to 0201 size
• Interpret schematics and implement engineering changes
• Assist in debugging test hardware, fixtures and test boards
• Conduct manual bench testing with guidance from test and/or design engineers
• Operate automated test systems with guidance from test and/or design engineers
• Chart test data with guidance from test and/or design engineers

• Test setups, accessories and assemblies meet the needs of the test and design teams
• Test equipment receipt, delivery, change-out and calibration handled effectively through effective communications with end users
• Bench and automated testing is conducted with a strong focus on accuracy and quality
Technical Competencies

Technical skills
• 5-10 years experience as an Engineering Technician
• Experience reworking RF PCBs with 0201 & 0402 components is required.
• Experience with hot air tools and rework of QFN & BGAs preferred.
• Working knowledge of RF test methods in a development engineering environment (Gain, noise figure, IP3, return loss, etc.).
• Working knowledge of RF, analog and digital test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
• Cellular industry product development experience preferred. RFIC characterization experience is a plus.
• Able to interpret schematics, engineering changes.
• Mechanically skilled, drilling, cutting and usage of common hand tools.
• Good verbal and written skills.
• Personal computer skills, including hands-on experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook required) and Microsoft Visio.
• Working experience with OrCAD and PADS are highly desirable.
• Following documentation and/or guidance from engineering staff in carrying out daily assignments.
Laboratory Maintenance Skills
• Test equipment bench setups, shipping and receiving of equipment. Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to assist with ordering, kitting and low volume assembly.
• Able to assist in the maintenance of design kits, connectors, cables and laboratory consumables.
• Able to build cables, wiring harnesses and test leads, pin crimping tools and soldering.
• Able to make RF pigtails with SMA 0.047 rigid tubing RF launches.
Education
An Associate degree in electronics, military electronic technician training, or equivalent technical education.
